In THE PRODIGAL GOD, New York pastor Timothy Keller uses the story of the prodigal son to shine a light on the central, beautiful message of Jesus: the gospel of grace, hope and salvation.Keller argues that the parable of the prodigal son, while Jesus’ best-known parable, is also his least understood. He introduces the reader to all the characters in this timeless story, showing that it concerns not just a wayward son, but also a judgemental older brother and, most importantly, a loving father. This short but powerful book is a reminder to the faithful, an explanation to the seeker, and finally an invitation to all – both older and younger brothers – to enter in to the ‘unique, radical nature of the gospel’: the reckless, spendthrift love of God.

“Go, marry an unfaithful woman.” Not exactly the assignment you want to hear from God. Yet it was what God asked Hosea to do, giving the prophet a unique understanding of what God was experiencing as his people turned away from him and worshiped false gods. Then God gave him messages for his unfaithful people—messages of warning and caution, messages hinting at redemption and grace, messages spoken to beckon them near to their husband-God. They were messages that made a big deal of a big love—a love too jealous to tolerate competition. In Jealous, Rebekah leads you through a Bible study of the book of Hosea and then recounts her personal stories of grace that are stirred from the Scriptures. The study will take you through each chapter of Hosea, engaging first your mind, then your heart, and then your hands. Following the study portion Rebekah tells of how God has rescued her and redeemed her own heart through the ups and downs, joys and pains of marriage, motherhood, and ministry. She will invite you to study God’s Word hard, for much more than an emotional fix or better self-esteem. Through this study, you will learn to consider who God is as husband-God and who you are as the unfaithful wife whom he married with eyes wide open.

Free to Run the Race describes the living out of our life in Christ (Hebrews 12:1). It speaks of running "with endurance the race that is set before us." This can be done by fixing our "eyes on Jesus." "Undoing the Burden of Parental Disregard," speaks to a specific encumbrance that weighs the runner down making it harder to keep focus and finish the race. The burden is called "parental disregard." It is not being allowed to "be oneself," to pursue one's inner direction, or natural proclivity in one's life. It is the experience of developmental woundedness that says being oneself in temperament, aptitudes, natural talents, and the expressing of this is prohibited. Prov 22:6 says, "train up a child according to his own way." The burden of parental disregard is the emotional pain in living out an identity that is not based on any expression of one's natural "way(s)" or bent(s). This makes the development of trust in a heavenly Father (parent) difficult. The relieving of this burden takes a ruthlessly honest focus on this woundedness and its working out its implications honestly that allows a more truthful understanding of God's love for our lives.

Christ declares, "Abide in me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me" (John 15:4). A branch derives life from the vine by virtue of its union with the vine. Similarly, Christ is the vine, and we are the branches. There is a vital, organic union between us. We draw on Christ's life through the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us. We must, therefore, abide in Christ by cultivating close and constant communion with him. That is to say, we must continually look "unto Jesus the author and finisher of faith" (Hebrews 12:2). The present work seeks to explain what this looking implies. It does so by turning to the writings of two largely forgotten Puritans and Baptists from the seventeenth century--Thomas Wilcox and Vavasor Powell. Together, they teach us that to abide in Christ is to behold him in his manifold roles and relations. As we do, Christ becomes our all in all.

Taking his heartbeats for granted, Brian L. Fowler, MD, never thought he would lose any of his own. But on October 14, 2009, he discovers his beats are being stolen one by one. The culprit? A rare inflammatory disease called cardiac sarcoidosis, which results in deep, penetrating scars that trigger unpredictable life-threatening arrhythmias. Dr Fowler, an emergency medicine specialist, understands the deadly potential of each arrhythmia. His fear of death reveals an additional and more insidious heart disease, which is undetectable by PET scan or EKG, for its affected heart rests deeply hidden where anguish and delight coexist. Like his physical heart, his spiritual heart is weary, scarred, and beats chaotically. The two diseased hearts need diagnosis, treatment, and healing. Frustrated, scared, and armed with a physician’s knowledge, a patient’s suffering, and a believer’s doubt, he begins a fascinating journey to discover the real reason for The Beating of My Hearts. “With transparency, vulnerability, and honesty, Brian allows us to look in on his profound disorientation, hear his questions, follow his search for meaning, and ultimately discover a fresh orientation to the life that was in him all along. I found myself walking closely and attentively with him on his journey. This was well worth the read.” J. New York Times bestselling author of The Songs of Jesus Timothy Keller—whose books have sold millions of copies to both religious and secular readers—explores one of the most difficult questions we must answer in our lives: Why is there pain and suffering? Walking with God through Pain and Suffering is the definitive Christian book on why bad things happen and how we should respond to them. The question of why there is pain and suffering in the world has confounded every generation; yet there has not been a major book from a Christian perspective exploring why they exist for many years. The two classics in this area are When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner, which was published more than thirty years ago, and C. S. Lewis’s The Problem of Pain, published more than seventy years ago. The great secular book on the subject, Elisabeth Ku¨bler-Ross’s On Death and Dying, was first published in 1969. It’s time for a new understanding and perspective, and who better to tackle this complex subject than Timothy Keller? As the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, Timothy Keller is known for the unique insights he shares, and his series of books has guided countless readers in their spiritual journeys. Walking with God through Pain and Suffering will bring a much-needed, fresh viewpoint on this important issue. From the Hardcover edition.
