Teaching students to be self-sufficient learners!
Teaching students to be self-sufficient learners!
This Chinese proverb exemplifies the way I teach. Building knowledge through total body and mind experience is the easiest and most permanent way to gain lifelong skills.
I am an enthusiastic teacher, wanting to lead children and adults into the world of learning. I started Learning Success because I believe that education is the key to unlocking a world of opportunities. For children, active engagement is the key to transferring new information into long-term memory. When youngsters are playing while learning, new information becomes engrained easily. Studies have shown that when the brain is engaged in games, music or activities, learning happens at a more rapid rate than through rote repetition.
I teach singing games to preschool through early elementary students.
”Musical experience early in life imparts lifelong neuroplasticity.”

These songs with games are fun and an essential part of brain development.
I, Tammy Moulton, started Learning Success after spending 35 years teaching ages 4 through 90. I taught Kindergarten through sixth grade, and was a reading intervention specialist for elementary students. I have a Language Development Specialist Credential as well as a California Multiple Subject Credential for teaching Kindergarten through 8th grade and Adult Education. Early childhood literacy difficulties are a specialty, as well as building number sense in math. I use play, music, and manipulatives to make learning highly engaging and fun. I have helped many adults get their high school diploma, and am very familiar with CA state curriculum requirements. I stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments to provide students the most effective strategies for success.
When you know how to read the whole world is open to you.
Beginning reading is based on a knowledge of language and a foundation in phonics. English reading and spelling rules are (for the most part) consistent and can be taught through strong phonics instruction. I teach beginning sounds with ZooPhonics, (a phonics and beginning reading program developed by a special education teacher,) and then progress with minimal word differences such as rhyming words. Sam, sat, sag, sap, sad, is an example of beginning decoding. When decoding rules are learned, students are introduced to linguistic readers which have controlled vocabulary. This assures success for beginning readers. It has been proven that TPR (Total Physical Response) is the most efficient method for teaching young children.
The image above is similar to a tool I use called the Rekenrek. The Rekenrek is used to teach combination sets, patterns, and count recognition. These skills are all part of number sense. The concepts necessary for math understanding are: number sense, counting, operations, pattern, measurement, data analysis, spatial relationships, and shapes. I teach number sense first and foremost through the manipulation of objects, thorough understanding of the hundreds chart, songs to assist in memorization, ten-frames, place value construction/deconstruction, and decomposition of numbers.
I have taught rudimentary computer skills to children and adults. I can teach you the basics of emailing, word processing, spreadsheets, slideshows, presentations, drawing programs, desktop publishing, formatting documents, buying or selling online, Google Suites, and Microsoft Office software.
Miss Tammy was a true professional, and her ability to work effectively with my daughters virtually was remarkable. She demonstrated exceptional commitment to their education, and played a crucial role in helping them develop phonemic awareness. Her guidance and structured approach kept them on task and engaged during every session.
-Melissa S.
I was very pleased with her teaching style, as I am an older student who was very hesitant on my return to school. I really appreciated the fact that she made me feel very comfortable because she walked me through the learning step by step. -Angel A.
I have had many teachers in my life, and I can say without doubt that Mrs. Tammy is by far the best. I not only learned how to thrive more academically, but I adapted some of her personality and teaching traits into my business. -Joe P.
She was so good at assessing the holes in my education and making a plan to fill them and get me across the finish line. -Luis G.
She has great patience when teaching. She helps you with whatever is necessary so that you can understand correctly. -Nancy M.
I believe Ms. Moulton is the type of teacher who cares for her student’s understanding of the material being taught as well as their future. Courtney G.
I understand that each student's situation and needs are unique to them. Tell me more about what you're looking for, and I will get back to you soon with some ideas.
